Pre-Clinical Rotations / Placements
These placements involve participation in basic science courses such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, biostatistics, or public health. Students can join for an agreed period while taking an elective or a semester away from their home university.
Clinical Clerkship
Our clinical rotation equips participants with essential skills for practicing in resource-limited settings, such as humanitarian missions and crisis environments, where generalists often manage diverse cases due to a lack of specialists.
The program emphasizes cost-effective, safety-focused protocols for providing effective care, including life- and limb-saving interventions and patient stabilization. Under the supervision of local clinicians or the program lead, participants assist in procedures and surgeries following local practices.
Upon completing at least 80% of the course, participants receive a certificate of completion accredited with CPD points by the Medical Council of Tanzania. This rotation covers areas such as:
- Nursing care in the resource-limited settings (RLS) field hospital
- Basic surgical skills applicable in RLS
- Emergency- medical and surgical skills that are effective in RLS
- Essential skills for managing obstetrical and childbirth-related emergencies
- Community and public health aspects in RLS

Research collaboration
We offer research opportunities in global surgery, trauma care outcomes, surgical education, public health, and community medicine. Participants can either join ongoing research projects as collaborators or bring their own global research ideas and receive guidance and supervision in developing proposals from scratch. Available opportunities are advertised on our blog.
Trauma-Surgery Dissection Course for Resource-Limited & Conflict Settings
The Advanced Trauma Dissection Course series offers two modules—one for surgeons and one for nurses—designed to enhance trauma care skills in resource-limited settings. The surgical module targets operating physicians and senior surgical trainees, while the nursing module is tailored for practicing nurses and senior trainees specializing in perioperative or surgical care.
The course combines hands-on cadaveric dissection, surgical simulations, and clinical scenarios, focusing on managing complex injuries, including weapon-related trauma. Nurses receive specific training in pre and postoperative care within field surgical hospitals.

Community and Rural Hospital Rotations
Community and rural hospital rotations offer a valuable opportunity to work in rural healthcare settings, providing exposure to key clinical areas such as women’s and children’s health, tropical medicine, and primary healthcare.
This rotation is especially impactful for both medical and nursing professionals, as well as trainees. Additionally, it can be tailored to include cultural immersion, as it takes place within rural African communities—enhancing both clinical and cross-cultural learning experiences.
